A Buddha For Haiti-Into The Light

Having just re-read Tracy Kidder’s book Mountains Beyond Mountains,
and watching the daily news out of Haiti, I felt compelled to do something
to try to raise funds for Partners in Health.

The image above was shot with natural light.
It is printed in the same high quality manner of all my giclee prints,
on water color paper, with archival inks.
The paper is 14″ x 16″ and will therefore fit nicely, floating in a standard
16″ x 20″ frame.

The proceeds from the print will go to Partners in Health.

Of the $225 price, $85 goes towards the professional printing and handling.

You will receive a letter stating tax deduction for the balance.

This and the following image will be printed in a signed limited edition of 75.
This means that if we all pitch in, we will be able to send Partners in Health
$21,000!

This would make my heart sing!

I firmly believe we all need to look into our personal bag of tricks and come
up with some way to be of service. I hope this meditative image will give you
peace and also remind you that you were part of the solution.

La Danse Insolite/Strange Dance

Here is something a bit different to start out a New Year.
This is a tryptich of 3 images, taken along a randonee path
that I have walked regularly for years. Somehow, the strange
beauty of these trees has previously eluded me. I never noticed
them until this past spring, 2009. They immediately reminded
me of dancers, bending and twisting in improbable contortions.
I decided to see how they would look together, so here they are.

The configuration on the paper for these 3 images together
is horizontal and they look really sensational large!

Village Doorway

What is it about these old doorways that spark the imagination?
Is it just because it is a different style of
architecture than one is used to seeing? I can imagine
the lovely odor of something deliciously French
coming from behind. Pot au Feu, Tarte Tatin?
Let your imagination go and if nothing else, head
to the kitchen and whip something yummy up!

Cottage Interior, Cape Cod

Let’s venture back across the pond today with this September entry from Cape Cod. I was sitting eating my granola and yoghurt when I looked across the room to this beautiful and subtle light. I grabbed the camera and this is what I got. Enjoy!

Dated Eggs in an Antique Coffee Bowl

This is one of my very favorite photos. Somehow it got dropped a while ago from the roster,
so I am reposting it.

There is a good story behind this, as with most of the photos. My neighbors Natalie and Fabrice have a fairly self-sufficient garden. I bring them American seed types to plant and then they in turn give me fresh eggs, lettuce, etc.

One day Fabrice came by with some lovely little brown eggs. They each had a number on them, the date that they were laid. As I am a sucker for typography, I loved the French school cursive numbers he wrote. I could not stand to eat them!

A week or so went by and I thought to myself, I had to eat these eggs! I went for a walk with Slaine and got the idea to shoot a remembrance of them when I got home.

I put them in the little antique cafe au lait bowl I had, took them out to the terrace and the antique cement top table and photographed them under the dappled light of the walnut tree.

It does not get any more romantic than this!

This photo looks fabulous at a large scale. I have sold several this way. It is dense and rich
and not as harsh as it looks on the computer screen. Remember, these are all printed on water color paper. I have sold several through designers and have this very print hanging in my kitchen in France.

Les Moutons, On A Randonee Near Tamnies

I remember this day well. We drove for an hour, dropped the car in Marquay, and headed out on a randonee to Tamnies, where our reward after 9kms or so, was a 3 course fixed price lunch… I am salivating thinking about the fresh salad to begin and the walnut icecream soufflee to end.

At the point this was taken, we were a touch lost. Molly ran ahead to ask about the route, I tried to keep Slaine and Fanny away from the moutons and other dogs at the house where we stopped to inquire. Fatigue was setting in, we were a touch late, close to 12:30 with our reservaiton at 1. Molly apologized for moving the troops along. But in the end, we were lusciously rewarded with a fabulous calorie deserved lunch. I have this lovely image to remember one of many wonderful and enchanting experiences hiking in my beloved Dordogne. Offered to you here, as armchair travel, from the snowy Berkshires.
